Section 12 (Wheel Alignment Specifications & Procedures): Adjustments: Caster

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1984 Pontiac 1000 and 1984 Chevrolet Chevette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: On diesel engine vehicles, remove resonator bracket before adjusting caster and camber. On all model, jounce vehicle several times to settle suspension. Release on down stroke. Check for proper tire pressure, worn steering or suspension components.
  1. Caster angle may be changed by realignment of washers located between legs of upper control arm. A kit containing one .118" (3 mm) washer and one .354" (9 mm) washer must be used for adjustment.
  2. When adjusting caster, always use two washers that total .472" (12 mm) thickness, with one washer at each end of locating tube. With thin washer in front, change is plus 1°. With washers reversed, change is minus 1°. Left-to-right side caster angles should be within 2° of each other.
Fig 1: Caster & Camber Adjustment With shims out or top mount nuts loose, vehicle weight will move control arm or strut to inboard position.
