No Load Test

With starter removed from vehicle, connect an ammeter in series with battery positive cable. Connect positive battery cable to starter. Connect negative battery cable to starter housing. Ammeter reading should be 90 amps at 11.5 volts. If amperage is greater than 90 amps, replace starter.
