Steering Gear - Power: Description
The power rack and pinion steering system has a rotary control valve which directs hydraulic fluid under pressure to either side of rack piston. The piston is attached to the rack. The piston uses hydraulic pressure to move the rack left or right. This then moves the tie rods and steering knuckles, which turn the wheels.
If the hydraulic assist should fail, manual control is maintained. However, under these conditions, more steering effort is required.
