Float System

The fuel inlet system maintains a pre-set fuel level in the bowl, allowing the basic fuel metering systems to deliver the proper mixtures. Fuel under pressure enters the bowl through the inlet fitting in the airhorn and passes through a paper element filter. The filter includes a check valve to prevent fuel loss during a vehicle rollover.

The carburetor float bowl is both internally and externally vented. The internal vents are positioned in the airhorn directly above the float bowl. These vents balance the air pressure on the fuel in the float bowl with the carburetor inlet air. External venting is accomplished through a vacuum and solenoid operated diaphragm type vent. This vent is sealed under normal engine operating conditions and is opened only upon the engine shut-down condition. The purpose of the vent is to allow hot fuel vapors, resulting from a hot "soak", to be vented to the storage canister.
