Pass Key Module Input Test

  1. With ignition off, disconnect connecter (C281) at base of steering column. Turn ignition switch to run. Measure voltage between terminal "B" (BRN) and known good ground. If approximately 5 volts are present, proceed to next step. If not within specifications, check "B" wire for open or short to ground. If wire is okay, replace Pass Key decoder module.
  2. Measure voltage between connector (C281) terminal "B" (BRN) and "A" (YEL). If approximately 5 volts are present, go to next step. If not within specifications, check "A" (YEL) wire for an open. If wire is okay, replace Pass Key decoder module.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect interrogator between both connector (C281) halfs. Insert customer Pass Key into ignition. Press interrogator ON-OFF switch to ON. If interrogator window indicates a code from 1 to 15, proceed to next step. If "E" is displayed, proceed to step 5).
  4. Monitor interrogator window and rotate ignition key to "START". If displayed code from step 3) remains constant in all key positions, check DK GRN wire from Security Indicator to Pass Key decoder module for a short to ground. See Figure . Ensure theft deterrent controller (if equipped) is not shorted to Security Indicator. If both are okay, replace Pass Key decoder module. If code is not constant is all positions, try the spare key. If no change, replace lock cylinder assembly. If spare key checks okay, original key is defective.
  5. Insert customer key into interrogator. If interrogator displays "E", replace key. If interrogator displays proper code (1 to 15), replace lock cylinder and wire harness assembly.
