Code A038, Left Front ESB Will Not Hold Motor: Notes
This code is designed to detect slipping left front Expansion Spring Brake (ESB). During initialization and braking, left front motor is re-homed (piston is moved to its upmost position and check valve lifted off its seat). If ESB slips, motor/piston will move. During next key-on initialization, a re-home of motor verifies motor/piston remained at home (upmost) position. If motor movement is detected, ESB is slipping.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Checks for a broken or defective left front ESB. This causes left front piston to be driven back by hydraulic pressure, resulting in pedal movement.
- Releases motor pack tension before removal.
