Code A047, Left Front Motor Spins Freely: Notes

This code is designed to detect a stripped gear or nut assembly during initialization. During the homing sequence, piston should reach top of bore resulting in a stalled motor. If motor does not stall, motor must be free spinning with little or no resistance, indicating a nut, screw or gear failure.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Positions motor at bottom of its travel.
  2. Determines if gear or nut is stripped. If either are stripped, hydraulic pressure applied from master cylinder will not overcome hydraulic ball screw, and brake pedal will not rise.
  3. When ball screw reaches top of its travel during full application, motor should stall. If motor continues to run, this indicates a gear or nut is stripped.
  4. Releases motor pack tension before removal.
