Test 36A - Odometer/Speedometer Failure

NOTE: Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine. Place gear selector in Drive. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal. If VSS signal does not increase smoothly with acceleration, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT section. If VSS signal increases smoothly with acceleration, go to next step.
  3. Check if problem is with odometer only. If problem is not with odometer only, replace instrument cluster. If problem is with odometer only, replace body control module.
