Alternator Indicator Test

  1. If CHARGE or VOLTS indicator stays on when engine is running, go to step 3). If CHARGE or VOLTS indicator does not come on with ignition switch in RUN position and engine off, disconnect alternator connector.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between alternator connector terminal "L" (Brown wire) and ground. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If indicator comes on, repair or replace alternator. If indicator does not come on, check bulb and Pink/Black and Brown wires for opens.
  3. Disconnect alternator connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If indicator does not light, repair alternator. If indicator remains on, check Brown wire for short to ground. If wire is okay, replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) R & I  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
