System Test

NOTE: System test is written specifically for General Motors' Tech 1 scan tool. A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.
  1. With ignition switch in OFF position for 5 seconds, turn switch to RUN position while observing theft system warning light. Theft system warning light should light. Using scan tool in Serial Data Link (SDL) Monitor Mode, check IPC-to-PCM status. Scan tool should read: VTD MODING = NOT SET, REVERSE ROTATE = INACTIVE and VTD PASSWORD = NOT RECEIVE. Check PCM-to-IPC status. Scan tool should read: VTD ACKNOWLEDGE = NO, VTD TAMPER =INACTIVE and REFERENCE SYNC = NOT SYNC.
  2. Put gearshift in Park (A/T) or depress clutch pedal (M/T). Put ignition switch in START position. Theft system warning light should remain lit. Using scan tool in SDL Monitor Mode, check IPC-to-PCM status. Scan tool should read: VTD MODING = NOT SET, REVERSE ROTATE = ACTIVE and VTD PASSWORD = NOT RECEIVE. Check PCM-to-IPC status. Scan tool should read: VTD ACKNOWLEDGE= NO, VTD TAMPER = INACTIVE and REFERENCE SYNC = NOT SYNC.
  3. Put gearshift in Park (A/T) or depress clutch pedal (M/T). Put ignition switch in RUN position. Theft system warning light should turn off. Using scan tool in SDL Monitor Mode, check IPC-to-PCM status. Scan tool should read: VTD MODING = SET, REVERSE ROTATE= INACTIVE and VTD PASSWORD = RECEIVE. Check PCM-to-IPC status. Scan tool should read: VTD ACKNOWLEDGE = YES, VTD TAMPER = INACTIVE and REFERENCE SYNC = SYNC.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. No Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) Link communication should exist.
