Cruise Control Does Not Engage
- Ensure BRAKE (10-amp), CRUISE (10-amp) and STOP/HAZ (20-amp) fuses are okay. Disconnect cruise control module connector. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminal "F" (Brown wire) and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Brown wire.
- Connect test light between cruise control connector terminals "F" (Brown wire) and "E" (Black wire). If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Black wire.
- Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminal "A" (Gray wire) and ground. Turn cruise control on. If test light glows, go to step 5). If test light does not glow, go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check for continuity in Gray wire between cruise control switch and cruise control module. If continuity exists, replace cruise control switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Gray wire.
- Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminal "B" (Dark Blue wire) and ground. Press SET/COAST button. If test light glows, go to step 7). If test light does not glow, go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check for continuity in Dark Blue wire between cruise control switch and cruise control module. If continuity exists, replace cruise control switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Blue wire.
- Connect test light between cruise control module connector terminal "C" (Gray/Black wire) and ground. Press RESUME/ACCEL switch. If test light glows, go to step 9). If test light does not glow, go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check for continuity in Gray/Black wire between cruise control switch and cruise control module. If continuity exists, replace cruise control switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Gray/Black wire.
- Disconnect TCC/brakelight switch. Connect test light between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminal "B" (Orange wire) and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Orange wire.
- Connect test light between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminal "D" (Brown wire) and ground. If test light glows, go to next step. If test light does not glow, repair open in Brown wire.
- Ensure brakes are not applied. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminals "C" (Purple wire) and "D" (Brown wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace TCC/brakelight switch.
- Apply brakes. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminals "C" (Purple wire) and "D" (Brown wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace TCC/brakelight switch.
- Ensure brakes are not applied. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminals "A" (White wire) and "B" (Orange wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace TCC/brakelight switch.
- Apply brakes. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between TCC/brakelight switch connector terminals "A" (White wire) and "B" (Orange wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace TCC/brakelight switch.
- Check for continuity in White wire between TCC/brakelight switch and cruise control module. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in White wire between TCC/brakelight switch and cruise control module.
- Check for continuity in White wire between TCC/brakelight switch and instrument panel fuse block. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in White wire between TCC/brakelight switch and instrument panel fuse block.
- Check for continuity in Black wire between instrument panel fuse block and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire.
- Check for continuity in Purple wire between TCC/brakelight switch and cruise control module. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Purple wire between TCC/brakelight switch and cruise control module.
- Check for continuity in Purple wire between TCC/brakelight switch and VCM 24-pin connector C4 (Black), terminal No. 10. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Purple wire between TCC/brakelight switch and VCM.
- Check for continuity in Light Blue/Black wire between cruise control module and VCM connector C4, terminal No. 24. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire.
- Check for continuity in Dark Green/White wire between cruise control module and VCM connector C4, terminal No. 3. If continuity exists, check if Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is lit and/or a VSS trouble code is set. If MIL is on or code is set, see TESTS W/CODES article. If MIL is not on and no code is set, replace cruise control module. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Green/White wire.
