Engine Oil Level Switch
- If DTC is present, diagnose trouble code first. See TESTS W/CODES article. Ensure oil level is up to full mark on dipstick. Install Tech 1 scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If scan tool indicates LOW, go to step 3). If scan tool does not indicate LOW, go to next step.
- Disconnect engine oil level switch connector. If scan tool still indicates LOW, replace engine oil level switch. If scan tool does not indicate LOW, check engine oil level switch circuit for short to ground. If circuit is okay, check for faulty PCM. See Figure .
- Disconnect engine oil level switch harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, probe engine oil level harness connector Tan wire terminal. See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, check for short in Tan wire to PCM. If circuit is okay, check for faulty PCM.
- With test light still connected between ground and engine oil level switch harness connector Tan wire terminal, check scan tool display. If scan tool indicates OK, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate OK, check for open in Tan wire to PCM. If circuit is okay, check PCM connection or for faulty PCM.
- Connect test light to battery voltage. Probe test light to engine oil level switch ground terminal (Black wire). If test light illuminates, replace faulty engine oil level switch. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Black wire to ground.
NOTE:
Ensure ignition is off for at least 10 minutes before proceeding with test.
