Liftgate Release Switch Does Not Operate Properly

  1. Press any of power door lock switches to UNLOCK position. Disconnect rear liftgate release motor harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe rear liftgate release motor harness connector Light Green wire terminal. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 4).
  2. Using a self-powered test light connected to ground, probe rear liftgate release motor harness connector Black wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace rear liftgate release motor.
  3. Check liftgate locking function. If liftgate locking function does not operate, go to next step. If liftgate locking function operates normally, repair open in Black wire between rear liftgate release motor and ground.
  4. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector Light Green wire terminal. Press liftgate release switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Light Green wire liftgate lock/unlock relay and rear liftgate release motor. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector Purple wire terminal. Press liftgate release switch. If test light illuminates, go to step 7). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  6. Using test light connected to ground, backprobe test light to liftgate lock/unlock release switch harness connector Purple wire. Press liftgate release switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Purple wire between lock/unlock release switch and liftgate lock/unlock relay. If test light does not illuminate, replace liftgate lock/unlock release switch.
  7. Disconnect liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector. Using a self-powered test light connected to ground, probe liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector Black wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between liftgate lock/unlock relay and ground.
  8. Connect a test light between ground and liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector Gray wire terminal. Press any power door lock switch to LOCK position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Gray wire between liftgate lock/unlock relay and splice connector.
  9. Connect test light between ground and liftgate lock/unlock relay harness connector Tan wire terminal. Press any power door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If test light illuminates, replace liftgate lock/unlock relay. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Tan wire between liftgate lock/unlock relay and splice connector.
