Charge Indicator Light Always On

  1. Disconnect generator connector. If vehicle is equipped with dual generators, disconnect both generator connectors. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light is on, go to step 3). If charge indicator light is not on, go to next step.
  2. Replace generator(s). See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If charge indicator light is still illuminated, go tostep 4). If charge indicator light is not illuminated, recheck system.
  3. Disconnect instrument panel connector. Using self-powered test light, connect between instrument panel harness connector terminal "B" (100-amp generator and dual generators) or "L" (124-amp generator) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 5).
  4. Repair short to ground in Brown wire between instrument panel and generator(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Recheck system.
  5. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Recheck system.
