Cruise Control Systems: Operation: Notes

The cruise control actuator monitors vehicle speed through the vehicle speed sensor and provides necessary commands to maintain or change vehicle speed in response to inputs from cruise control mode switch. When actuator receives a cruise control command, a DC servomotor inside actuator turns a worm gear. An accelerator cable is moved which adjusts throttle position. A magnetic clutch mechanically connects DC servomotor and worm gear. Cruise control operation is disengaged when one or more of the cancel switches close. Upon receiving a cancel signal, the actuator de-energizes magnetic clutch inside. This disconnects DC servo motor and allows throttle to return to idle position.
