Functional Test

  1. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Carefully touch upper radiator hose. Hose should feel hot to the touch. This indicates thermostat is open. Go to next step.
  2. Set fresh/recirculated air control lever to fresh air position. Set temperature control lever to full cold position. Set blower speed selector switch to high position. Go to next step.
  3. Move mode control lever through all positions, stopping momentarily in each position and noting operation. See MODE CONTROL LEVER POSITIONS  under OPERATION. Temperature of air flowing from vents and outlets should be approximately the same as outside air. Go to next step.
  4. Set temperature control lever to full hot position. Air temperature inside of vehicle should increase and be dramatically warmer than outside air. Move mode control lever through all positions, stopping momentarily in each position and noting operation. Go to next step.
  5. Move blower speed selector switch from low to high positions and listen for an increase in blower motor speed at each switch position. Move blower speed selector switch from high to low positions and listen for a decrease in blower motor speed. If temperature, mode control, or blower motor does not operate as specified, go to TROUBLE SHOOTING .
