Cruise Control Switch Indicator Light Always On
- If cruise control does not operate properly, go to appropriate SYSTEM TEST. If cruise control system operates properly and CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster or on cruise control main switch remain on, go to next step. If cruise control system operates properly and CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster and on cruise control main switch operate properly, problem is intermittent. Visually inspect all wiring and connections. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. If CRUISE indicator lights on instrument cluster and on cruise control main switch remain illuminated, go to step 12 . If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster and on cruise control main switch goes out with ignition switch in OFF position, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster illuminates, go to step 7 . If CRUISE indicator light on instrument panel does not illuminate, go to next step.
- If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch illuminates with ignition switch in ON position, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator light on cruise control main switch does not illuminate with ignition switch in ON position, return to step 1 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control servo harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster does not illuminate, go to step 14 .
- Ensure cruise control servo harness connector is disconnected. Disconnect cruise control main switch harness connector. See CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION for access to harness connector. Check Light Green/White wire for short to ground between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 10 and cruise control main switch harness connector terminal No. 1. See Figure . See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. If short to ground exists, go to step 9 . If wire is okay, go to step 13 .
- Ensure cruise control servo is disconnected. Disconnect Gray 16-pin instrument cluster harness connector. Check Gray/Yellow wire for short to ground between instrument panel Gray 16-pin harness connector terminal No. 16 and cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4. If short to ground exists, go to step 10 . If short to ground does not exist, go to step 11 .
- Repair short to ground in Light Green/White wire between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 10 and cruise control main switch harness connector terminal No. 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest operation.
- Repair short to ground in Gray/Yellow wire between cruise control servo harness connector terminal No. 4 and Gray 16-pin instrument cluster harness connector terminal No. 16. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest operation.
- Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
- Repair short to battery voltage in Black/White wire between IG fuse (20-amp) and CRUISE indicator light on instrument cluster or cruise control main switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest operation.
- Replace cruise control main switch. See CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest operation.
- Replace cruise control servo. See CRUISE CONTROL SERVO under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest operation.
