Diagnostic System Check
NOTE:
When using scan tool for diagnostics, ABS/TCS system is disabled by EBCM. ANTI-LOCK indicator will illuminate indicating only normal power assist braking is available. After diagnostics have been completed, disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC) and turn ignition off for a least 10 seconds before road testing. This procedure is done to reset EBCM.
If multiple DTCs are displayed, begin diagnosis with DTC that is displayed first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table. Diagnose all codes in the order displayed by scan tool.
- Install scan tool. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, diagnose data link communications. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with IPC and PCM. If scan tool communicates with IPC and PCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with IPC and PCM, go to TEST H: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYMPTOM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select ABS control module display DTC function. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, go to SYMPTOM TESTS .
- If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with "U", go to TEST H: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYMPTOM TESTS. If scan tool displays other than a "U" type DTC, diagnose affected DTC(s).
