Test E: Wipers Inoperative In All Modes

  1. If wiper/washer system description and operation has been reviewed and preliminary inspection has been performed, go to next step. If wiper/washer system description and operation has not been reviewed and preliminary inspection has not been performed, go to DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  and DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT  under TROUBLESHOOTING.
  2. Turn the ignition switch ON. Operate the windshield wiper/washer switch through all the switch positions. Does the windshield wiper/washer system operate normally? If so, condition is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS  under TROUBLESHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Connect a test light from the accessory voltage supply circuit (Yellow wire) terminal in the harness connector to a good ground. Turn the ignition ON. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  7 .
  4. Connect a test light from the accessory voltage supply circuit (Yellow wire) terminal to the ground circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector. Turn the ignition ON. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  8 .
  5. Connect a test light from the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit (Dark Green wire) terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector to ground. Turn the ignition ON. Press the windshield washer switch. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to step  10 . If not, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect the windshield wiper/washer switch connector. Connect a test light from the accessory voltage supply circuit (Yellow wire) terminal in the windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector to ground. Turn the ignition ON. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to step  11 . If not, go to step  9 .
  7. Repair the windshield wiper motor accessory voltage supply circuit (Yellow wire) for an open or short to ground. After repairs are complete, go to step  12 .
  8. Repair the windshield wiper motor ground circuit for an open or high resistance. After repairs are complete, go to step  12
  9. Repair the windshield wiper/washer switch accessory voltage supply circuit (Yellow wire) for an open or short to ground. After repairs are complete, go to step  12
  10. Replace the windshield wiper motor. See WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  12
  11. Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  12
  12. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, go system is okay. If not, go to step  3 .
