Cruise Control Systems: Description

Cruise control is a speed control system that maintains a desired vehicle speed under normal driving conditions. Steep grades up or down may cause variations in selected speeds. Cruise control system has the following capabilities.

Cruise
Coast
Resume Speed
Accelerate
Tap-Up
Tap-Down

Cruise control system consists of the following main components:

Multifunction turn signal lever. Multifunction turn signal lever includes an ON-OFF-R/A switch and a SET/COAST switch.
Cruise control module.
Cruise control cable.
Vehicle speed sensor.
Cruise control release switch. Cruise control switch disengages cruise control system.
Brakelight switch. Brakelight switch disengages the cruise system.

Cruise control release and brakelight switches are mounted on the brake pedal bracket. When brake pedal is depressed, cruise control system is electrically disengaged by these switches. Throttle returns to idle position.
