Cruise Control Diagnostic System Check

  1. Using a fused jumper wire, connect underhood Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals No. 11 (Tc) and No. 3 (E1). See Fig 1 . Underhood DLC is located in left rear of engine compartment, mounted to strut tower. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If CRUISE control indicator does not flash, go to next step. If CRUISE control indicator flashes, go to step  8 .
  2. Depress cruise control switch to ON position. If CRUISE control indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE control indicator does not illuminate, diagnose cruise control indicator. See TEST C: CRUISE CONTROL INDICATOR INOPERATIVE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Disconnect cruise control module 16-pin harness connector. Cruise control module is located under right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Pink/Black wire between underhood DLC terminal No. 11 (Tc) and cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 5. See Fig 1 and Figure . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  5 .
  4. Inspect cruise control module harness connector for signs of loose or intermittent contact with terminals. If concern still exists, go to step  6 . If concern was found and repaired, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair open in Pink/Black wire between DLC and cruise control module. After repair, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace cruise control module. After repair, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect cruise control module harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect underhood DLC terminals No. 11 (Tc) and No. 3 (E1). See Fig 1 . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Note flash code pattern of CRUISE control indicator. If CRUISE control indicator does not flash rapidly, diagnose cruise control system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. If CRUISE control indicator flashes DTCs, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  8. Observe flash code pattern of CRUISE control indicator. If CRUISE control indicator does not flash rapidly, diagnose cruise control system by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. If CRUISE control indicator flashes DTCs, appropriate diagnostic test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
