Installation Procedure
- Place the steering gear (1) in position.
- Align the marks made during the removal in order to guide the stub shaft into the cardan joint.CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the steering gear-to-frame bolts (3).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 135 N.m (98 ft lbs).
- Connect the intermediate shaft.
- Install the pitman arm.
- Remove the caps from the steering gear and hoses.
- Connect the hoses to the steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the hose fittings to 27 N.m (20 ft lbs).
