Vehicle Speed Sensor

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located in output shaft of transmission (2WD) or transfer case (4WD). The VSS incorporates a hall switch that generates a digital signal. The VSS sends this signal to the instrument cluster or the speedometer, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and the cruise control servo, if equipped. The PCM converts the VSS signal into vehicle speed for use in engine and transmission operation.
