Throttle Body: Installation

CAUTION: The IAC valve and the TP sensor must be removed before cleaning throttle body. The IAC valve and the TP sensor may malfunction if exposed to compressed air or solvents.
  1. Remove any dirt or carbon deposits/build-up from the throttle valve and the throttle bore. Remove any dirt or carbon from the by-pass air passages in the throttle body. Remove any dirt or carbon from the crankcase breather pipe and passage. Clean the passages and the throttle bore with compressed air. Inspect that the throttle valve operates smoothly and freely.
  2. Install a new gasket and the throttle body onto the intake manifold. Secure the throttle body to the intake manifold with the 2 nuts/bolts. Tighten the nuts/bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Connect the throttle cable to the throttle lever, if necessary. Connect the accelerator control cable to the throttle lever. Adjust the accelerator control cable as necessary. See appropriate ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. Connect the coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  4. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector. Connect the breather hose to the throttle body. Install the intake air inlet duct to the throttle body. Refill cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM  .

  2. Install a new throttle body gasket onto the intake collector. See Fig 3 . Connect the breather hose to the throttle body. Install the throttle body onto the intake collector. Slide the intake collector forward and attach to the intake manifold.
  3. Secure the intake collector to the intake manifold with the 2 bolts and 4 nuts. Tighten the fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Secure the throttle body to the intake collector with the 2 nuts and 2 bolts. Tighten the fasteners to specification.
  4. Connect the accelerator control cable to the throttle body. Rotate the throttle lever to WOT and insert the cable end into the slot. Connect the transmission throttle valve cable to the throttle lever. Adjust the accelerator control cable as necessary. See appropriate ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  5. Connect the IAC air hose to the throttle body. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector. Connect the intake air inlet duct to the throttle body. Secure the inlet duct with the hose clamp. Connect the intake surge tank to the intake manifold. Secure the intake surge tank with 4 nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification.
  6. Install the engine surge tank cover and secure with the 4 fasteners. Install the front suspension support brace and tighten the bolts to specification. Refill the cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM  .
