Fuel Tank: Installation

NOTE: When replacing the fuel system hose clamps, always replace the clamps with the original equipment or parts that meet the GM specifications for those parts.
  1. Position and support the fuel tank with the aid of an assistant. Connect the fuel sender and the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connectors at the body pass through. Install the fuel tank straps. Install the fuel tank strap bolts. Tighten the fuel tank strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. Connect the vapor recirculation pipe to the fuel fill pipe. Connect the fuel filler hose to the fuel tank. Tighten the hose clamp to specification. Connect the fuel feed pipe quick-connect fitting at the inlet side of the fuel filter. Connect the fuel return pipe quick-connect fitting near the fuel filter.
  3. Connect the EVAP purge pipe quick-connect fitting at the EVAP canister (short wheel base) or near the fuel filter (long wheel base). Lower the vehicle. Add fuel. Install the fuel tank filler pipe cap. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedure: Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds. Turn ON the ignition. Inspect for fuel leaks.
