Frame Replacement: Installation

  1. If you are replacing the frame, install the following components:
    • Both lower control arms. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
    • Stabilizer shaft. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
    • Spacers, upper insulator, lower insulator and retainers.
  2. Position the engine support table with the frame under the vehicle. See Figure .
  3. Lower the vehicle to the frame.
  4. Loosely install the bolts to secure the rear frame to the body. See Figure .
  5. Loosely install the bolts to secure the front and rear frame to the body. See Figure .
  6. Align the frame to the body by inserting two 0.74" X 8.0" (19 X 203 mm) pins in the alignment holes on the right side of the frame. Tighten front and rear frame bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Connect both the lower ball joints to the steering knuckle. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
  8. Install the nuts which secure the engine mount to the frame. See appropriate MECHANICAL article in ENGINES.
  9. Install the nuts which secure the transaxle mount to the frame. See TRANSAXLE MOUNT  .
  10. Remove the power steering gear from the exhaust pipe and position to the frame.
  11. Install the steering gear mounting bolts. See appropriate POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING.
  12. Install the stabilizer shaft links. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
  13. If equipped, connect both front wheel speed sensor connectors (1). See Figure .
  14. If equipped, install both front wheel speed harness retainers (2) to the frame and to the lower control arm.
  15. Install the positive battery cable.
  16. Install the power steering cooler pipe. See appropriate POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING.
  17. Install the radiator lower air deflector.
  18. Install the front tires and wheels.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Remove the engine support fixture.
  21. Inspect the front wheel alignment. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in SUSPENSION.
