Frame Replacement: Removal
NOTE:
Tools Required: Universal Engine Support Table (J-39580).
- Install the engine support fixture. Refer to one of the following procedures:
- See INSTALLATION (3.4L) under ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE.
- See INSTALLATION (3.8L) under ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the front tires and wheels.
- Remove the lower radiator air deflector.
- Remove the positive battery cable retainers. Position the positive battery cable aside.
- Disconnect the power steering cooler pipe from the frame. See appropriate POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING.
- Secure the power steering cooler to the exhaust pipe.
- Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Rotate the stabilizer shaft up to gain access to the mounting bolts for the power steering gear. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
- Remove the mounting bolts for the power steering gear. See appropriate POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING.
- Secure the power steering gear. See Fig 1 .
- Remove the nuts which secure the engine mount to the frame. See appropriate MECHANICAL article in ENGINES.
- Remove the nuts which secure the transaxle mount to the frame. See TRANSAXLE MOUNT .
- If equipped, disconnect both front wheel speed sensor connectors (1). See Fig 2 .
- If equipped, remove both front wheel speed harness retainers (2) from the frame and the lower control arms. See Fig 2 .
- Separate both of the lower ball joints from the steering knuckle. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
- Lower the vehicle until the frame contacts the universal engine support table. See Fig 3 .
- Remove the bolts which secure the front frame to the body. See Fig 4 .
- Remove the bolts which secure the rear frame to the body. See Fig 5 .
- Raise the vehicle in order to separate the frame from the body.
- If you are replacing the frame, remove the following components:
- Both lower control arms. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
- Stabilizer shaft. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
- Spacers, upper insulator, lower insulator and retainers.
