Power Steering Pump Assemble

  1. Apply wheel bearing lubricant, GM P/N 1051344, (Canadian P/N 993037) or equivalent, to the oil seal lip.
  2. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143,(Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the sliding surface of the shaft (1).
  3. Insert the pulley's shaft from the oil seal side of the pump body (2).

  4. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the O-rings and fit the O-rings (1,2) to the pump body.

  5. Install the side plate (1) to the pump body. Carefully align the dowel pins on the side plate with the bolt hole (2).

  6. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the sliding surface of the rotor (2).
  7. Place the rotor with the dot (1) side facing upward. Install the rotor to the shaft (3).
    IMPORTANT: Do not reuse old snap rings.
  8. Install a new snap ring to the shaft (3), fitting the snap ring securely into the shaft groove.

  9. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the sliding surface of the cam ring (1).
  10. Install the cam ring to the pump body. Place the tapered end of the cam ring facing the side plate (2).

  11. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to each vane (2).
  12. Install 10 vanes to the rotor (1).
  13. Install the snap ring to the pump shaft.

  14. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the O-ring (1).
  15. Install the O-ring to the pump body.

  16. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the sliding surface of the pump cover (2) and the rotor.
  17. Match the dowel pins (3,4) to the holes of the cover plate and install the pump cover to the pump body.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  18. Install 4 pump cover bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) to the pump cover (5).

    Tighten 

    1. Gradually tighten the pump cover bolts to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

  19. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the O-ring of the pressure switch (1).
  20. Install the pressure switch to the pump body (2).

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the pressure switch to 28 N.m (20 lb ft).

  21. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the relief valve.
  22. Install the relief valve to the pump body (1).
  23. Install the flow control spring.
  24. Apply DEXRON® - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canadian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the O-rings of the plug.
  25. Install the O-rings to the plug (2).

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the plug to 60 N.m (43.5 lb ft).

  26. Apply DEXRON®-III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, (Canandian P/N 10952622) or equivalent, to the O-ring (2) of the suction connector (1).
  27. Install the O-ring to the suction connector.

  28. Install the power steering gear outlet hose connector (1) to the pump body (2).

    Tighten 

    1. Tighten the power steering gear outlet hose connector bolts (3) to 10 N.m (88.5 lb in).

  29. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle. Refer to POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT (2.0L)   or  POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT (2.5L)  .
