Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid

    NOTE: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Clean the area surrounding the reservoir cap (1).
  2. Remove the reservoir cap.
  3. Inspect the fluid level in the reservoir (6) at regular intervals. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  4. If the fluid is below the MIN mark (3), add DEXRON®-III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143 (Canadian P/N 10952622), or equivalent, to the MAX mark (2).
  5. Install the reservoir cap.
  6. When checking the fluid level after servicing the steering system, bleed the air from the system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
