Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.

Disable the SIR System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
If you are NOT removing the steering column, ensure the front wheels and tires are in the straight ahead position
Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
Remove the steering shaft nut (2).

Use paint in order to place match marks (2) on the steering wheel and on the steering shaft. Use these marks as a guide during installation.

NOTE: Do not use any steering wheel puller or side screws other than those recommended as the SIR coil assembly is easily damaged if the correct tools are not used.

Use J 1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel (1). See Special Tools and Equipment .
