Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rack and pinion outer tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  2. IMPORTANT:

    Mark the location of the steering gear inner tie rod nut before removing it from the steering gear inner tie rod.

  3. Remove the steering gear inner tie rod nut and discard it.
  4. Remove the outer steering gear boot clamp.
  5. Remove the inner steering gear boot clamp and discard it.

  7. Disengage and remove the steering gear boot from the steering gear.
  8. Inspect the sealing surfaces and threaded shaft portion of the steering gear and the steering gear inner tie rod. The surfaces must be clean and free of any debris.
