Installation Procedure
- Apply sealant to both sides of the engine front cover gasket with GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent.
Apply the sealer no less than 5.0 mm (0.20 in) wide.
- Install the engine front cover gasket.
- Install the engine front cover.
- Install the engine front cover bolts (1, 2 and 3).
Tighten:
- Tighten the small engine front cover bolts (1) to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
- Tighten the large engine front cover bolts (2, 3) to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).
- Install the power steering pump to the engine. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
- Install the water pump. Refer to WATER PUMP REPLACEMENT - LX9 (3.5L) in Engine Cooling.
- Install the radiator outlet hose to the engine front cover. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet in Engine Cooling.
- Install the thermostat bypass pipe to the engine front cover. Refer to THERMOSTAT BYPASS PIPES REPLACEMENT - LX9 (3.5L) in Engine Cooling.
- Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
- Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
- Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
- Fill the crankcase with new engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac-N-Fill) in Engine Cooling.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Engine Electrical.
