Circuit/System Testing

Test the thermostat for correct operation. Refer to Thermostat Diagnosis .
Test the engine cooling system for overheating. Refer to Engine Overheating .
Inspect the water pump and coolant flow for correct operation. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (RPO LS4) or Water Pump Replacement (RPOs LZE, LZ4, LZ8) .
Inspect the engine for worn/leaking/cracked cylinder heads or engine block. Refer to the following:
- Coolant in Combustion Chamber and Coolant in Engine Oil for the 3.5L engine.
- Coolant in Combustion Chamber and Coolant in Engine Oil for the 3.9L engine.
- Coolant in Combustion Chamber and Coolant in Engine Oil for the 5.3L engine.
