Installation Procedure

    IMPORTANT: If replacing the steering column then transfer any scribed marks from the old component to the new one.
  1. Position the steering column in the vehicle.
  2. Hand start the steering column pivot bolt.
  3. Hand start the steering column mounting bolts.
  4. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  5. Tighten the steering column bolts using the following order:

    Tighten: 

    1. Tighten the steering column pivot bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the right steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
    3. Tighten the left steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

    IMPORTANT: Failure to transfer the scribed marks may result in an off-center steering wheel.
  7. If installing a new intermediate steering shaft then transfer the scribed marks.
  8. Align the scribed marks on the intermediate steering shaft to the scribed marks on the steering column shaft.
  9. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column shaft.
  10. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  11. Install a new intermediate steering shaft bolt at the steering column.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).

  12. Connect all electrical connectors as needed.
  13. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  14. Install the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement .
