Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2010 GMC Savana Special, 2010 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2010 GMC Savana, 2010 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2010 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Verify the following:
    • The wheels on the vehicle are straight ahead.
    • That the J-42640:  pin is installed or the ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. CAUTION: The new SIR coil assembly will be centered. Improper alignment of the SIR coil assembly may damage the unit, causing an inflatable restraint malfunction.
    NOTE: Do not remove the centering tab from the new SIR coil until the installation is complete. If the SIR coil does not come with a centering tab, you must center the SIR coil.
  3. Ensure the SIR coil is centered. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .

  5. Align the SIR coil assembly (1) with the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).

  7. Slide the SIR coil (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  8. Firmly seat the retaining ring (3) into the groove on the steering shaft assembly (2).
  9. If a centering tab is on the SIR coil, remove the centering tab.

    Discard the centering tab.

  10. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement .

  12. If equipped with a tilt column, align the tilt lever into the steering column.

    Slide the tilt lever handle into the steering column until the handle locks into position.

  13. Install the steering wheel onto the steering shaft. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  14. If you locked the steering column with the J-42640:  pin, remove the J-42640:  pin.
  15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
