Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Some, but not all, of the steering columns have manufacturer match marks.

  1. If you are installing a NEW steering column with manufacturer match marks (1), align the manufacturer match marks on the lower shaft.
  2. If you are installing a NEW steering column, use paint in order to copy the match marks from the old column to the new column.
  3. Install the power steering assist motor. Refer to Power Steering Assist Motor Replacement .

  5. Position the steering column in the vehicle.
  6. Hand start the steering column pivot bolt.
  7. Hand start the steering column mounting bolts.
  8. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  9. Tighten the steering column pivot bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  10. Tighten the right steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  11. Tighten the left steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  12. Align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  13. Connect all of the electrical connectors.
  14. Install the steering wheel airbag coil. Refer to Steering Wheel Airbag Coil Replacement .
  15. Install the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement .
  16. If equipped with RPO JL4, center the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering .
