Installation Procedure
- If you are installing a NEW steering column with manufacturer match marks (1), align the manufacturer match marks on the lower shaft.
- If you are installing a NEW steering column, use paint in order to copy the match marks from the old column to the new column.
- Install the power steering assist motor. Refer to Power Steering Assist Motor Replacement .
- Position the steering column in the vehicle.
- Hand start the steering column pivot bolt.
- Hand start the steering column mounting bolts.
- Tighten the steering column pivot bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the right steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the left steering column mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
- Connect all of the electrical connectors.
- Install the steering wheel airbag coil. Refer to Steering Wheel Airbag Coil Replacement .
- Install the driver knee bolster reinforcement. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement Replacement .
- If equipped with RPO JL4, center the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centering .
NOTE:
Some, but not all, of the steering columns have manufacturer match marks.
