Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement

Fastener Tightening Specifications:  Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the right windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Garnish Molding Replacement .
  3. Loosen the front passenger side of the instrument panel upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
1 Retainer, Insulator/Closeout Panel (Qty: 2)
2 Panel Assembly, Insulator/Closeout
3 Screw, Instrument Panel Compartment Dampener

Tighten:  3 N.m (25 lb in)

4 Compartment Assembly, Instrument Panel
5 Trim Plate, Instrument Panel Accessory
Tip:  Disconnect the electrical connector.
6 Nut, Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module (Qty: 2)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

7 Module, Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint
Tip: 
  1. To release the instrument panel inflatable restraint door from the upper trim panel, push in on the tabs to separate the module door from the trim panel.
  2. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .
