Circuit/System Testing

Driver Window Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal E and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect the X1 harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver and disconnect the harness connector at the M74D window motor-driver.
  5. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  6. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  7. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
  8. Ignition ON, command the driver door window UP and DOWN by using the driver window switch. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
    • If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.

Front Passenger Window Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79P window switch passenger.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal H and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  4. Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal D and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit terminal D and signal circuit terminal H.
  6. Ignition ON, command the passenger window UP and DOWN by using the right front switch on the S79D window switch-driver. The test lamp should illuminate during the UP and DOWN commands.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate during the UP or DOWN command, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  7. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S79P window switch passenger. Disconnect the harness connector at the M74P window motor-passenger.
  8. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79P window switch passenger.
  9. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S79P window switch passenger.
  10. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
  11. Ignition ON, command the M74P window motor-passenger UP and DOWN by using the S79P window switch passenger. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate during the UP or DOWN command, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79P window switch passenger.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the passenger window motor.

Rear Window Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear S79 window switch.
  2. NOTE: Verify the rear windows are enabled by checking the window lockout switch on the S79D window switch-driver.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal E and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  4. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  5. Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal H and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit terminal C and signal circuit terminal H.
  7. Ignition ON, command the rear window UP and DOWN using the window switch on the driver master control. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test both signal circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
  8. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rear S79 window switch and disconnect the harness connector at the rear M74 window motor.
  9. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
  10. Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
  11. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
  12. Ignition ON, command the rear window UP and DOWN using the rear window switch. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test both control circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
  13. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear M74 window motor.

Lockout Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear S79 window switch.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal E and ground.
  3. Ignition ON, command the rear window lockout ON and OFF by pressing and depressing the lockout switch on the S79D window switch-driver. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver
  4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
