Circuit/System Testing
Driver Window Motor Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the M74D window motor-driver.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 2 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Test for 5-10 V between the serial data circuit terminal 4 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the serial data circuit for a short to voltage.
- If less than the specified range, test the serial data circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
Driver Power Window Switch Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver.
- Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 11 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for and open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Down Switch parameter is Inactive.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit terminal 8 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- Connect a 5 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 8 and ground, verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Down Switch parameter is Active.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- Verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Up Switch parameter is Inactive.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit terminal 9 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- Connect a 5 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 9 and ground, verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Up Switch parameter is Active.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- Verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Express Switch parameter is Inactive.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit terminals listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- Control terminal 7
- Control terminal 10
- Connect a 5 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground, verify that the scan tool Driver Window Main Control Express Switch parameter is Active.
- Control terminal 7
- Control terminal 10
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the M74D window motor-driver.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
Passenger Window Switch Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79P window switch-passenger.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S79P window switch-passenger.
Passenger Window Inoperative
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79P window switch-passenger.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit terminal 3 and signal circuit terminal 6.
- Ignition ON, command the passenger window UP and DOWN using the S79D window switch-driver. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test either signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S79P window switch-passenger.
- Disconnect the harness connector at the M74P window motor-passenger.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79P window switch-passenger.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79P window switch-passenger.
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
- Ignition ON, command the passenger window UP and DOWN using the S79P window switch-passenger. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79P window switch-passenger.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the M74P window motor-passenger.
Rear Window Switch Malfunction
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear S79 window switch.
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- Ignition ON, command the rear window lockout ON and OFF by pressing and depressing the lockout switch on the S79D window switch-driver. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
- If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
Rear Window Inoperative
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 11 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 6 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the S79D window switch-driver.
- Disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear S74 window switch.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Connect a test lamp between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the signal circuit terminal 6.
- Ignition ON, command the rear window UP and DOWN by using the S79D window switch-driver. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test both signal circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the S79D window switch-driver.
- Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the rear S79 window switch.
- Disconnect the harness connector at the rear M74 window motor.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the control circuit terminal B and ground.
- If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
- Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and control circuit terminal B.
- Ignition ON, command the rear window UP and DOWN using the rear S79 window switch. The test lamp should illuminate when commanding the UP and DOWN states.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the rear S79 window switch.
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear M74 window motor.
