Installation Procedure

  1. If you are installing a NEW intermediate shaft, copy the match marks from the old intermediate shaft to the new intermediate shaft.

  2. Position the intermediate steering shaft in the vehicle.
  3. Align the match marks and connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column.
    4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  4. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt at the steering column and tighten to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).
  5. Position the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the steering column.
  6. Install the left instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .

  7. Align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
  8. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt at the steering gear and tighten to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

  9. Position the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the steering gear.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  11. Remove the J 42640  pin.
