Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .

    NOTE:

    Place match marks on the steering linkage inner tie rod nut and the steering linkage inner tie rod before removing. During installation of the nut, align the match marks.

  4. Remove the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1).
  5. Remove the steering gear boot outer clamp (2).

  7. Loosen the steering gear boot inner clamp (1).

  9. Remove the steering gear boot (1).
  10. Remove the steering gear boot inner clamp (2). Discard the clamp.
  11. After removing the steering gear boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination. If none is evident, continue with the repair. If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the inner tie rod. Refer to Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Replacement .
