SERVICE INFORMATION
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
CONDITION/CONCERN
Dealers may notice that C0398 will not clear from the TCCM when attempting to clear with GDS on the first attempt. When his happens some dealers are replacing the TCCM or reprogramming the TCCM, often with the same software.
RECOMMENDATION/INSTRUCTIONS
Do not replace or reprogram the TCCM because C0398 will not clear when requested to clear the first time. At the time this pi was written it takes two consecutive clearing actions to get the C0398 to clear from the TCCM. So you will have to select clear DTCs from module/vehicle and after GDS cycles through the clearing process and C0398 is still present then you will have to select clear DTCs again and that should remove the DTC from the module.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
