Installation Procedure

  1. {If equipped} Steering Column Lock Control Module (2)» Install

  2. {If equipped} Bolt (1) @ Steering Column Lock Control Module» Install and tighten 3.5 N.m (31 lb in) [2x]
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Steering Column (1)» Install

  4. Hand-tight the NEW 4 steering column nuts (2).
  5. Steering Column Nut» Tighten in the sequence shown 22 N.m (16 lb ft) [4x]

    WARNING:

    In order to ensure the intended function of the steering column in a vehicle during a crash and in order to avoid personal injury to the driver, perform the following:

    • Tighten the steering column lower fasteners before you tighten the steering column upper fasteners. Failure to do this can damage the steering column.
    • Tighten the steering column fasteners to the specified torque. Overtightening the upper steering column fasteners could affect the steering column collapse.
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  6. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
  7. Connect the intermediate steering shaft to the steering column.

  8. Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1)» Install and tighten
    1. First pass: 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
    2. Final pass: 180 - 195 degrees
