Installation Procedure
- When installing the steering column, align the upper intermediate steering shaft with the steering column shaft while positioning the steering column in the vehicle.
- Ensure the match marks on steering column shaft and the intermediate steering shaft are aligned.
- Position the steering column (1) in the vehicle.
- Install the steering column nuts (1) and tighten in the sequence shown to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).
- Before continuing, ensure the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) is completely installed on the steering column shaft.
- Before continuing, ensure the bearings in the intermediate steering shaft boots are positioned correctly and moving freely.
- Install and tighten Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) to 30 N.m (22 lb ft)
- Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
- Install Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket (1). Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket Replacement
- Install Instrument Panel Knee Bolster. Refer to Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement)
- {If equipped} Program the steering column lock control module. Refer to Control Module References
- Center the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
