Installation Procedure

    NOTE:
    • When installing the steering column, align the upper intermediate steering shaft with the steering column shaft while positioning the steering column in the vehicle.
    • Ensure the match marks on steering column shaft and the intermediate steering shaft are aligned.
  1. Position the steering column (1) in the vehicle.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  3. Install the steering column nuts (1) and tighten in the sequence shown to 22 N.m (16 lb ft).

  5. Before continuing, ensure the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) is completely installed on the steering column shaft.
  6. Before continuing, ensure the bearings in the intermediate steering shaft boots are positioned correctly and moving freely.
  7. Install and tighten Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) to 30 N.m (22 lb ft)
    1. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  9. Install Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket (1). Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket Replacement
  10. Install Instrument Panel Knee Bolster. Refer to Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Driver Knee Bolster Reinforcement)
  11. {If equipped} Program the steering column lock control module. Refer to Control Module References
  12. Center the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
