Tire Pressure Sensor Learn
NOTE:
Once the learn mode has been enabled, each of the sensor's unique identification (ID) codes can be learned into the TPMS module's memory. The TPMS module must learn the sensor IDs in the proper order to determine correct sensor location. The first learned ID is assigned to left front, the second to right front, third to right rear and forth to left rear.
NOTE:
In the following procedures, a TPM Sensor Activation Tool (J-46079) may be used in place of increasing/decreasing pressures to enable sensor. To use, place activator antenna against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location, then press and release the ACTIVATE button.
NOTE:
If TPM Sensor Activation Tool (J-46079) is used, and vehicle is having trouble entering relearn mode, check batteries in activation tool. Low batteries may allow some functions to work, but not allow vehicle to perform learn function. When the internal battery is fresh (fully charged), the indicator is "full" or all dark. When the battery is depleted, the indicator shows "empty" or all light. The placement of the TPM Sensor Activation Tool (J-46079) is critical. If the scan tool antenna is not placed perpendicular to the wheel wall and close to tire pressure valve stem, it may not properly activate the tire pressure sensor.
NOTE:
In the following procedures, a TPM Sensor Activation Tool (J-46079) may be used in place of increasing/decreasing pressures to enable sensor. To use, place activator antenna against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location, then press and release the ACTIVATE button.
NOTE:
Before proceeding with the steps below, ensure that no other sensor learn procedure is being performed simultaneously and that no tire pressures are being adjusted on another TPM equipped vehicle within close proximity.
IMPORTANT:
In the event that a particular sensor's information is displayed on the special tool upon activation, but the horn does not chirp, it may be necessary to rotate the wheel valve stem to a different position due to the sensor signal is being blocked by another component.
- Ignition ON, initiate the TPM Learn Mode using one of the following procedures:
- Using an OEM scan tool, initiate the TPM Learn Mode. The front left sensor Learn mode has been enabled.
- Press and release the driver information center (DIC) INFO button until the TIRE LEARN message appears on the DIC display. Press and hold the SET/RESET button until front and back turn signals to flash twice indicating the Learn Mode has been enabled.NOTE: At the time of publication, it could not be definitively determined that the DIC method to enter Learn mode is correct. It may be that initiating the TPM Learn Mode is only possible using an OEM scan tool.
- Starting with the left front tire, learn the tire pressure using one of the following methods:
- Hold the antenna of the Sensor Activation Tool aimed upward against the tire sidewall close to the wheel rim at the valve stem location. Press and release the activate button. Ensure that the transmit indicator on the special tool indicates that the sensor activation signal is being transmitted. Wait for front and back turn signals to flash twice. If the turn signals do not flash, repeat the sensor activation sequence with the tool.
- Increase/decrease the tire pressure for 8-10 seconds then wait for front and back turn signals to flash twice. The flashes may occur before or up to 30 seconds after the 8-10 second pressure increase/decrease time period has been reached. Once the turn signals have flashed, the sensor information is learned.
- After the front and back turn signals have flashed twice, repeat step 2 for the remaining 3 sensors in the following order: Right Front, Right Rear, Left Rear.NOTE: Follow the sensor order listed since there is no visual indicator on the vehicle for the sensor learn order.
- When the left rear sensor has been learned the front and back turn signals will flash twice, the learn process is complete and the tire pressure indicator module exits the Learn mode.
