Installation Procedure

    Position the steering column in the vehicle. (1)

    WARNING:

    In order to ensure the intended function of the steering column in a vehicle during a crash and in order to avoid personal injury to the driver, perform the following:

    • Tighten the steering column lower fasteners before you tighten the steering column upper fasteners. Failure to do this can damage the steering column.
    • Tighten the steering column fasteners to the specified torque. Overtightening the upper steering column fasteners could affect the steering column collapse.
    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Steering Column Nut (1) - Install and tighten [4x] 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  3. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Steering Column (3) - Install - Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement 
  4. Install the wiring harness retaining pin at the bottom of the steering column.
  5. Connect all electrical connectors.

    Transmission shift cable (1) @ Steering Column - Connect

  7. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bracket - Install - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Left Side) , or Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Right Side)
  8. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Install - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Left Side) , or Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement (Right Side)
  9. Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Remove the CH-42640  Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin (1) from the steering column lower access hole.
