Ignition Timing
CAUTION:
Timing light connections should be made using proper adapters. Do not puncture cables, boots or nipples with test probes.
- Connect a timing light to No. 1 cylinder. If equipped, ground carburetor switch with a jumper wire. Connect a tachometer to engine. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
- Disconnect and plug vacuum hose at vacuum transducer on Spark Control Computer (SCC). If necessary, adjust curb idle speed. With engine running at or below curb idle RPM, check timing on timing plate.
- Adjust timing by loosening distributor hold down bolt and turning distributor housing. After timing has been set, recheck curb idle and adjust if necessary.
NOTE:
Engine is equipped with a magnetic timing probe receptacle, located 10° ATDC. Do not use this location to check timing with a conventional timing light.
