Current Output Test

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect alternator output wire at alternator "BAT" terminal. Connect 0-150 ammeter in series between alternator "BAT" terminal and disconnected output wire. Connect positive lead of ammeter to alternator "BAT" terminal.
  2. Connect positive lead of 0-18 volt voltmeter to alternator "BAT" terminal. Connect negative lead of voltmeter to ground. Connect tachometer to engine. Reconnect negative battery cable. In "OFF" position, connect Variable Carbon Pile Rheostat (C3950) between battery terminals.
  3. Remove air hose between power module and air cleaner. Connect a jumper wire from ground to Green R3 lead wire on dash side of Black 8-way connector. See Fig 1. Start engine and reduce engine speed to idle. Adjust idle speed and rheostat to 1250 RPM and voltmeter reading of 15 volts.

NOTE: DO NOT  allow voltage to exceed 16 volts.
  4. Ammeter reading of 80 amps minimum should be read. If reading is less and resistance wire is okay, remove alternator and bench test.
