No Start Test 5 - Ignition Coil Spark Check
- Disconnect secondary coil wire from distributor cap. Hold coil wire 1/4" from a good ground. Crank the engine. There should be spark between the coil wire and ground.
- If there is spark, check for problem in distributor cap, rotor or secondary wires. Repair or replace as necessary. If no spark, check coil wire resistance. Resistance should be 250-600 ohms per INCH or 3000-7500 ohms per foot. If resistance is within specifications, proceed to NO START TEST 6 . If resistance exceeds specifications, replace coil wire.
