Fixed Steering Column: Installation
- Install ground clip on left column bracket slot. Insert column through floor pan opening and couple with steering gear shaft. Install roll pin. Connect column-to-mounting studs with nuts, but DO NOT
tighten. Assure breakaway capsules are seated in column support bracket. Tighten upper bracket nuts to specification. Refer to the TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS in this article.
- Install floor plate. Install steering wheel. Install horn switch and wire(s). Install wiring connectors at steering column jacket. Install link rod-to-shift lever by snapping rod into grommet with pliers. Adjust shift rod linkage.
- Install gearshift indicator pointer to approximate original location and adjust as required. Install lower reinforcement. Install lower instrument panel steering column cover. Install negative battery cable. Test light and horn operation.
